  • 2025 Industrial Placement Programme (Engineering & Design)

    Composite Design

    In this placement, you’ll design and develop car components and assemblies made primarily from carbon fibre, such as the Survival Cell, Front and Rear Wings, Bodywork, Floors and Brake Ducts. You’ll handle component modelling, tooling design, and laminate definition, collaborating closely with other teams to ensure aerodynamic performance, mass efficiency and reliability. This CAD-based role involves designing components and related jigs and fixtures for current and future cars, with some analysis to guide development. You’ll work closely with production to ensure efficient manufacturing within tight deadlines, with Test and Development group to verify performance and reliability, and with the Car Build team for successful installation.

    Mechanical Design

    The Mechanical Design team handles the design, development and reliability of the suspension, steering and brakes on the Formula 1 car. This role blends creativity with analytical thinking, using CAD to design parts while considering optimal materials and manufacturing processes. You’ll work with the Structures group to optimise components for mass, stiffness, and strength and collaborate with Production to ensure cost-effectiveness. You’ll also ensure parts are approved for race use with the Test and Development team. You’ll be accountable for the reliability of your designs, resolving any issues swiftly and improving the suspension, steering, and brake performance using race team feedback and data analysis.

    Test & Development (T&D)

    In T&D we test, measure and investigate all aspects of the mechanical and structural systems of the Formula One car, including chassis safety, crash testing, suspension behaviour, power unit systems, gearbox, cooling, wings, structural bodywork, brakes and driver controls. By observing behaviour and measuring outcomes, we enhance simulation techniques and component reliability, elevating the car's performance. You'll support our engineers in delivering the best possible value to the technical team. You'll be challenged creatively and encouraged to learn and grow to your fullest potential.

    Engine Systems

    In this placement, you’ll design and develop the systems that integrate the power unit into the race car, including fuel and cooling systems. You’ll work with other teams to ensure these systems support power unit performance, and reliability, while being aerodynamically optimised and mass efficient. Primarily CAD-based, you'll design components, jigs, and fixtures for both current and future cars, while conducting analysis to guide development. You’ll collaborate with production to ensure components are manufactured efficiently within tight deadlines and with the trackside team to ensure the parts perform as expected, implementing any necessary reliability improvements.

    Aero Design

    As part of the Aero Design team, you’ll be responsible for engineering the hundreds of parts needed for our wind tunnel test program. You’ll learn to thrive under pressure, working at a rapid pace, and seeing the result of your efforts within days or even hours. You’ll develop a range of transferable engineering skills, collaborating with experienced engineers from various disciplines, and you’ll learn to communicate effectively and clearly while making a tangible and measurable impact on the performance of the race car.

    Aero R&D Design

    You’ll join a team of specialist Mechanical Engineers focused on delivering mechanical design research projects and new capabilities for the Aerodynamic Department. You’ll conceptualise, design, and engineer mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for the 60% Wind Tunnel Model, Aero Testing Equipment and Wind Tunnel facility. Using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (3DXperience), you’ll lead the design of cutting-edge system to enhance aerodynamic performance. You’ll also support physical R&D testing and support the assembly of the Wind Tunnel Models.

    Working in a small team, you’ll have full responsibility for projects with the freedom to explore your own ideas and learn about Formula 1 Wind Tunnel and Model technology. This placement provides hand-on experience, personal growth and transferable skills development.

    Technical Operations

    In this role, you’ll contribute to streamlining processes, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring the car's optimal performance. You’ll collaborate with Aerodynamics, Design Office, and Production teams to ensure smooth information flow and timely project delivery. This dynamic role will expose you to various projects, where you'll continuously seek opportunities for improvement. Your responsibilities include process development, providing technical support, and optimising workflows. You’ll help ensure efficient project progress and data accuracy, while gaining valuable skills in a fast-paced environment.

    Garage Equipment Design

    You’ll develop innovative solutions to enhance the operational efficiency for trackside and in-house teams. Key Responsibilities include:

    You’ll receive comprehensive training in CAD and engineering drawings, empowering you to take full ownership of your projects from initial concept to completion.

    AMPT Design

    An Industrial Placement role within the Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) design group offers you an opportunity to be fully immersed in an engineering team, delivering innovative solutions across various high-performance and niche projects. You’ll focus on supporting mechanical and composite design functions using fundamental engineering skills and CAD, while also interacting with other groups such as Aerodynamics and Systems Modelling. In this role, you’ll make tangible contributions to AMPT’s objectives.

    Electronics

    The Electronics Department designs instrumentation, control systems, harnesses and electrical installations for the car and wind tunnel. The team collaborate with the race team, supporting electronic systems, control systems, and car assembly, covering electrical engineering, mechanical design, control systems, software, and F1 electronics manufacturing. With major changes coming in 2026, including a new ECU, electronic architecture, power unit, and gearbox, the team leads these projects. You’ll design electronics for the wind tunnel, R&D, and the driver-in-the-loop simulator, working on instrumentation and integrating electronic systems on test rigs.

    We’re seeking a student studying electronic engineering or a related field, passionate about F1, problem-solving and innovation.

    Performance Analysis

    As a Performance Analysis Industrial Placement, you’ll support both current and future car development within the Performance Engineering Group. You’ll conduct Vehicle Simulations to enhance car performance and develop data analysis tools to visualise key performance parameters. This role suits those with a keen interest in Vehicle Dynamics, Physics, Data Science, and Coding, with a chance to provide insights that drive real-world performance improvements.

    Performance Optimisation

    In the Performance Optimisation Industrial Placement, you’ll help optimise car setup and support race events from Mission Control. You’ll automate existing simulation tools and create custom visualisations in Python to enhance data-driven decision-making. This role offers exposure to vehicle performance, making it ideal for those interested in aerodynamics, tyres, or suspension optimisation.

    Engineering Software

    You’ll help develop and support of bespoke software solutions, including databases, microservices, web, and desktop applications. Our tools are used by engineers and technicians across departments at AMF1, such as aerodynamics, race car design, part production, and the race team. You’ll enhance our applications by adding new features, fixing bugs, and improving performance, working across the entire product lifecycle, from user requirements to design, coding, testing, and deployment. Within weeks, you’ll make meaningful contributions to our software suite, delivering solutions that help AMF1 build a world championship-winning car.

    Performance Software

    Working within Performance Engineering, you will play an active role in supporting our engineers during live events, as well as with post-session analysis, with the aim of swiftly providing data to our engineers to inform their decision making. Our data streams include real-time car sensor information alongside audio and video feeds. This is a fast-paced role, and the aim will be for you to have code running during a live event within a few weeks of commencing the role.

    Aero Thermal

    You'll address thermal and aerothermal challenges of our F1 car in the Thermal Engineering group. You'll play a key role in developing future brake, power unit and cooling systems. You’ll learn to analyse data from multiple sources, convert your development ideas into geometries in CAD and evaluate performances in CFD. You’ll prepare for physical dyno and track tests, delivering lap time improvements. You’ll also build and maintain system simulation tools to guide cooling requirements for test and race events. This placement offers the chance to develop multidisciplinary skills and make a real impact on car performance.

    Aerodynamics

    As a placement student in the aerodynamic development team, you will be immersed in the same tasks and given the same challenges as our aerodynamicists. You'll conceive, discuss, design, text and iterate aerodynamic concepts in your respective groups' area of responsibility. The expectations are the same as those placed on our graduate aerodynamicists and you will be working with CAD, creating reports, analysing CFD and WT results and running WT shifts during your year with us.

    Experimental Aerodynamics

    As a placement student in the experimental aerodynamics team, you will have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to our state-of-the-art, brand-new wind tunnel and associated processes, methodology and hardware. The expectations are the same as those placed on our graduate engineers, and you will be working with CAD, creating reports, analysing WT results and running WT shifts during your year with us.

    Race Strategy

    As a Race Strategy Industrial Placement, you'll integrate into the Race Strategy team, supporting all championship events and contributing to strategic decision-making throughout race weekends. The responsibilities of the Strategy department include: competitor monitoring and analysis, pit stop performance tracking, team regulatory compliance, and formulating the overall race weekend strategy—covering race plans, tyre combinations, and optimal pit stops. Your day-to-day tasks will involve conducting competitor analysis, developing strategy analysis tools, and contributing to event optimisation and reporting.

    IT – Operations (Project Coordinator)

    We offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our IT Operations Team as a Project Coordinator. In this role, you’ll be a key part of our project management efforts, collaborating with the Operations Team to plan, coordinate, and oversee various IT projects across the organisation. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of IT projects ranging from software development and networking to Windows, Linux, mobile, Azure, and M365 implementations. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management within a dynamic and fast-paced IT environment.

    IT – Cyber Security

    We have an exciting opportunity for Undergraduate student in Computer Science or Cybersecurity to join our IT Architecture Team as an industrial placement. In this role, you’ll assist in developing and implementing cybersecurity policies across various technology areas, including software development, networking, Windows, Linux, mobile, Azure, and M365. You’ll also assist in vulnerability assessments and penetration testing activities. This placement offers a valuable opportunity to enhance your skills in cybersecurity while contributing to the protection of our IT infrastructure.

  • Additive Manufacturing Technician

    We have an exciting new opportunity to be part of the Model Manufacturing team as Additive Manufacturing Technician, based in our fantastic new campus, AMRTC.

    The successful candidate will have multiple years’ experience of additive manufacturing. They will have a good attention to detail, work calmly and accurately under pressure, work positively and enthusiastically in a small team and have a flexible attitude to helping fulfil the requirements of the department and team as a whole.

    Working

    day shift

    in the additive manufacturing team, you will be responsible for the operation, programming, maintenance, and optimisation of additive manufacturing systems to produce high-quality components for the Aston Martin F1 Team.

    Collaborate closely with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and engineers to ensure the seamless integration of 3D printed parts in our wind tunnel models and cars. To support the additive manufacturing department across all technologies.

    The Successful candidate must have the following attributes:

    - Health & Safety: Follow all relevant health and safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment in the manufacturing facility.

    - Operation & Maintenance: Operate a range of additive manufacturing machines, including but not limited to SLS, SLA, and FDM technologies, ensuring optimal performance and precision.

    - Programming Builds: Use specialised AM software to program and prepare builds for 3D printing, including slicing, part orientation, and support generation to maximise efficiency, improve part accuracy, minimise material usage, and ensure build success.

    - Component Production: Manufacture high-quality, functional, and lightweight components such as aerodynamic parts, jigs, fixtures, and tooling through additive manufacturing processes.

    - Quality Control: Perform inspections, measurements, and post-processing (e.g., finishing, sanding, curing) of 3D printed parts to meet strict engineering specifications and performance standards.

    - Material Management: Prepare and handle a variety of advanced materials, such as polymers, composites, and metal powders, ensuring correct usage and traceability.

    - Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues in the printing process, machine calibration, build programming, or part quality to minimise downtime and wastage.

    - Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest advancements in additive manufacturing technologies and materials, suggesting and implementing improvements to enhance production efficiency and component performance.

    - Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all production processes, machine settings, build programming, and component quality checks for traceability and continuous improvement.

    - Delivery: Ensure projects are delivered on time while maintaining quality across ADM department.

  • Aerodynamicist

    Aerodynamic performance is the largest differentiator in Formula 1. Our Aerodynamicists work together to tackle complex aerodynamic problems by combining solid fundamentals, creativity, a calm demeanour, and effective analysis with a passion for the sport, tenacity, dedication, and a desire for perfection.

    Responsibilities

    Using these qualities, you will help improve the aerodynamic performance our current and future race cars by:

    - Working effectively as part of a team

    - Analysing and understanding the results of wind tunnel (WT) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tests

    - Efficiently creating and iterating new geometric solutions to aerodynamic problems using computer aided design (CAD)

    - Working across the design groups to ensure the aerodynamic intent is realised

    - Working shifts in the wind tunnel as part of the team responsible for ensuring a successful test

    Requirements

    We are looking for Composite Design Engineers to be an effective part of a team of design engineers responsible for the scheme, design, testing and development stages of varied composite components within our Composite Design group.

    Key skills:

    Primary Responsibilities

    In this role you will be required to:

  • Vehicle Dynamics Engineer

    We have a new opportunity to be part of the Vehicle Performance team in the role of Vehicle Dynamics Engineer.

    The role has broad responsibilities in the following areas:

    - Simulation studies for current and future car development

    - Performance analysis

    - Model correlation

    - Mechanical rig testing (R&D, K&C, 7-Post)

    - Conducting Driver In the Loop (DILSim) test programs

    - Liaison with other technical departments

    The following skills & experience are required:

    - Experience within in the automotive/motorsport sector

    - A proactive approach to problem solving

    - An understanding of mechanical systems

    - An understanding of data analysis techniques

    - An awareness of ground vehicle aerodynamic principles

    - Matlab and/or Python coding experience

    - Good communication skills, being able to describe problems in simple terms

    Experience in the following is preferred but not essential:

    - Motorsport trackside experience

    - Data analysis software

    - Mechanical modelling in Simulink / Dymola

    - Hands-on experience of mechanical/automotive systems

    The ideal candidate will possess an excellent degree in an Engineering related discipline and exhibit strong problem solving skills.

    The ability to work effectively whether as part of a cross-functional team or with minimal supervision is a prerequisite.

    Wind Tunnel Operations

    team in the role of

    Wind Tunnel Technician

    .

    Working as part of the Wind Tunnel Operations group, you will undertake a range of projects and activities to provide technical support to our brand-new, state-of-the-art wind tunnel.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    - Operation and maintenance of the Aston Martin Wind Tunnel.

    - Routine checks and calibration of Wind Tunnel model instrumentation, pre and post Wind Tunnel session and during model builds.

    - Assemble, operate and maintain bench test rigs for system checking both on and off model.

    - Assemble, operate, maintain and repair R&D test and calibration rigs and equipment.

    - Assemble, install, help diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems within the Wind Tunnel, on the model and R&D test rigs.

    - Record data and document experimental methods, configurations, and procedures.

    - Collate tunnel metrics to report on tunnel health and efficiency.

    - Assist with stock control and spares inventory record keeping.

    The successful candidate should have previous experience in one or more of the following:

    - Wind Tunnel systems and aerodynamic testing.

    - Other high-level motorsport or automotive research and testing environments.

    - Mechanical Engineering.

    - Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

    - Systems Engineering.

    - Fitting, maintenance or calibrations of test or measurement equipment.

    The ideal applicant must possess excellent practical and technical skills which can be applied to a range of equipment types, from heavy plant to sensitive instrumentation.

    In addition, they must be able to follow detailed instructions, both written and verbal, and work methodically, showing good record-keeping and IT skills.

    Previous experience with wiring harnesses and electronic components, along with data acquisition software knowledge would be a significant advantage.

    The role demands a flexible approach to working hours including shift work and occasional weekends.
